Robert William "Buck" Hoerling died Monday, June 1, 2015 in Centralia at the age of 91. He was born on October 20, 1923 in Centralia, WA to Clarence G. and Mae E. (Pollard) Hoerling. He was a lifetime resident of Centralia, attending public schools and graduating from Centralia High School in 1941.
Bob was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy as a radioman aboard the U.S.S. Chase. Upon discharge he attended and graduated from Mortuary School in 1948. He became a second generation funeral director working with his father Clarence from 1948 until 1984. At one point there were three generations of Hoerlings working together in the community.
He was a life-member in Centralia Lodge #63 F&AM, 50+ year member Chapter #14 OES, life-member of the Centralia-Chehalis Elks Lodge #2435, life-member of Grant Hodge Post 17-American Legion, and on April 16th Bob was presented with a 70 year continuous membership in Post 17 certificate and pin.
Bob married Jacqueline Ingalls on December 8, 1946. They spent many years traveling to Hawaii for Jackie's birthday, and spending cabin time on the Puget Sound in Olympia. Bob was an active golfer in the Twin Cities. He and Jackie were also Husky fans, traveling to many away games in addition to home games.
Bob and Jackie celebrated 64 years of marriage prior to her death in 2010. A daughter Ruth Ann Hoerling died in 1949.
He is survived by his son Jim (Joyce) Hoerling, of Centralia; daughters, Karen Hermeston, of Olympia and Kimberly S. Carlson, of Chehalis; Grandchildren, Alex (Jeanette) Hoerling; Michelle Daly; Michael (Susan) Hermeston; Marshall (Andrea) Hermeston; Stephanie (Shannon) Mencke; David (Lynn) Fetch; Great Grandchildren, Emma & Bella Hermeston; Mia & Mara Hermeston Jana (Craig) Bunn, Max & Spencer Shuford; Tatum & Logan Hoerling; Sailor & Dylan Fetch; Austin & Emma Mencke; sister-in-law Susan Balfour; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation may be made at Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary Chapel on Friday, June 5, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at Mt. View Cemetery on Saturday, June 6, at 12:00 noon.
