Suzy passed away peacefully in Centralia, Washington. A 20-year colon cancer survivor, it was sadly a reoccurrence of this disease which ended her life far too soon.
Suzy was raised in the small mill town of Gilchrist, Oregon where she developed a passion for the outdoors and strong dedication to her loved ones. It was also there that she met and married Norm Johnson. Her quiet, small-town life soon transformed to that of a devoted naval officer’s wife and mother, all too soon thereafter to that of a naval officer’s widow. Suzy never outgrew her love of travel and discovery. She prided herself in having been to all 50 states and five different countries.
A dedicated life-long crafter, gardener, reader, and writer of stories. Suzy studied the arts, crafts, histories, and lore of local peoples everywhere she went. She also enjoyed sharing her own eclectic life story, able to surprise even her closest friends with tales of her adventuring. A little know Suzy-fact is that she loved video gaming. Spending hours collecting game achievements, completing virtual adventures, and chatting with her on-line friends and family in Animal Crossing and World of Warcraft, Suzy’s pink pig-tailed alter-ego Chemult will be sadly missed in many circles.
Whenever a family member or dear fiend was in need, Suzy was the first to arrive and the last to depart. Offering care and comfort, assisting with the tiniest of details, and being the strong shoulders to help in the toughest of times.
Suzy is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Fran and Dave, her two sisters-in-law MaryAnn and Sherry, her two daughters Jill and Lisa, her nieces and nephews Angie, Mark, Jon, Chip, Kim, Marie, and Andy. Also, her four-legged babies Buffy, Lizzie, Greyson, and Ripples. All of whom she loved deeply. Her sense of compassion, her smiling eyes and her keen sense of humor will remain permanently with those who have had the pleasure of calling her mom, aunt, sister, or friend.
Everyone who remembers Suzy is asked to celebrate her life in their own way, maybe by sharing favorite stories of her with a close friend, planting new flowers in a garden or by doing an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness to someone in need.
Suzy’s ashes will be scattered at a future date per her wishes in the ‘tall pines of Oregon’.
