Roy Edward Sahlin

In Loving Memory of Roy Sahlin: 1931 – 2023

Roy Edward Sahlin, 91, passed away at his home in Chehalis, Washington, on May 2, 2023.  Roy was born on October 7, 1931 to Andrew and Herborg “Violet” (Hanson) Sahlin in Rochester, Washington.  After losing his father at the age of 8, his mother married Harold Wetzel who became step-father to him and his sister Lillian. He spent his early years in Rochester before graduating from Centralia High School in 1949. 

After graduation he began serving in the Army National Guard in 1950 and while working in the timber industry.  In 1952 he began working at Central TV and Appliance where he would work for the next 52 years.  In 1953 he was drafted into the US Army and served for 2 years from 1953 – 1955, serving part of the time in Germany.  Upon returning to civilian life he would continue his career at Central TV and Appliance until retirement in 2004.  In 1957 he married Alice Spindle, they had 3 sons and were married for the next 61 years.  Roy was an avid outdoorsmen enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and spending time at the beach.  He and Alice also enjoyed trips to Reno with friends.  Roy was a member of the Chehalis Eagles 1550 for over 50 years and was also a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Chehalis.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice (in 2018), his Parents and sister Lillian.

Roy is survived by his sons, Richard (Nikki) Sahlin, Chehalis; Robert Sahlin (Curt Le Clair), Glendale, Arizona; Chad (Haley) Sahlin, Chehalis; grandchildren Courtney (Tim) Thompson, Lane and Avery Sahlin and great grandchildren Kamryn and Hudson Thompson all of Chehalis; sisters Arlene McCoy, Naperville, Illinois, Vivian Soo and brother Daryl Wetzel both of Lacey, Washington.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Assured Home Hospice for the excellent care provided to their Dad during his final days.

Arrangements are being handled by Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 - 3 pm on Saturday, June 17, at the Chehalis Eagles.
