Kit Witt Obituary

On Monday, April 19, 2021, Kit N. Witt, loving wife and mother of three, passed away at the age of 81. Kit was born in Palmer, Alaska, May 18, 1939, to Victor and Claire Johnson.

Kit moved from Alaska with her family down to Oakville, Wash., in 1953, and married her Husband, Kenneth, June 14, 1958. Together they raised three sons, Kevin, Kraig, and Kenny, and lived happily married for just shy of 63 years.

Kit worked various jobs early in their marriage before settling into a long career as the rural mail carrier at the Oakville Post Office. She was simply known by the community as the “Mail Lady”. Shortly after establishing herself there, she got involved with the Rural Letter Carriers Union and held the state position of Treasurer for several years. After retiring from the Postal Service, Kit went back to work part time at the Lucky Eagle Casino as a VIP Host in the Players Club. She really enjoyed her time there meeting new people, hanging out with friends, and being part of a team.

Kit, along with her husband, Ken, loved to travel. They saw the country from train cars, truck and camper, and even by river boat. One of their favorite trips was by rail from Centralia, Wash., to New Orleans, La., with plenty of stops along the way. They traveled throughout the southwestern United States, mostly in their truck and camper, stopping at every mining town they

could find. Borders did not stop them either. They took several trips through the Canadian Rockies and even ventured across the

Atlantic to spend time in England.

Kit truly loved life. She was very active and never wasted a day. She loved her family and rarely spent a day apart from her

husband, Ken. For 63 years, they were side by side, they were only separated for three months and four days, after Ken’s

death, before she went to join him again.

Kit was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her father, Victor; mother, Claire; and her brother, Lane.

She is survived by her three sons, Kevin, Kraig, and Kenny; grandsons, Bryan, Sawyer, Logan, and Henry; and granddaughters, Katie, Emma, Abby, Addison, and Lydia; greatgranddaughters, Shiloh and Macy.

A graveside service for Kit will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021, at Pioneer Cemetery in Oakville, followed immediately after with a potluck gathering at her son’s property at 194 Williams Creek Rd., Oakville, Wash.
