Harold Dean Whitfield

It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Dean Whitfield announces his passing on Monday, January 31st, 2022 at the age of 82. Though our hearts are broken beyond measure we are grateful he is now in comfort with our Heavenly Father.

Born in 1939 in Oklahoma, Harold moved to the mountains of Greenville, CA at the age of two where he was raised and graduated high school. He often spoke of those formative years, time spent playing basketball, his love of the mountains and forest, and the strong work ethic he learned from his parents. Harold started working in logging at the age of 13 to help support his family, worked as a lineman for the railroad, a long-haul cross country truck driver, journeyman mechanic, and voluntarily served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Harold knew hard work his entire life and he instilled those values in his children.

His sense of humor was infectious. He loved to make his friends and family laugh. Nothing made him happier than pulling a practical joke on his grandchildren. We have little doubt that upon arrival at the Pearly Gates, Harold looked St. Peter in the eye and said:

“I’m Ornery, Cantankerous, and Socially Unacceptable!”

Harold will always be remembered by his surviving children, Veronica, Cary, Joyce, Paul and daughter in-law Brooke; we know he is happily reunited with his daughter Susanne in Heaven. Harold will also be remembered by his six grandchildren, Aron, Katrina, Paul, Shelby, Taylor, Caesar, and his great-granddaughter Kairi.
