George Theodore “Ted” Walt
George Theodore “Ted” Walt, age 70, died Tuesday, February 9, 2021 in Olympia, WA of coronavirus. He was born November 19, 1950 in DeKalb, Illinois to Albert and Johanna (Knutson) Walt. He graduated from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, in 1980.
Ted married his wife, Janet (Stout) Walt on August 14,1971 in DeKalb, IL. In 1984 Ted moved his family to Newberg, OR.
Ted worked as a journeyman tool and die maker at the family business, DeKalb Precision Industries. He also was a tooling engineer at A.O. Smith, Harvest Store, DeKalb IL. After moving to the Portland area, he became a manufacturing manager for Delta Engineering. He was the owner of Janco Machining, LLC and was the maintenance supervisor for RR Donnelley Printers. Daimler Trucks North America hired him to be their Safety Engineer. Ted retired in 2017 and always had a project “in the works”. He worked with wood, copper, sheet metal and most recently started painting. His favorite shopping destinations were Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Michael’s.
Ted was a dedicated fly fisherman for many years. He found fly rods at second-hand stores, flea markets and garage sales. He researched their origins, refurbished them and gave many away as gifts.
Survivors include his wife Janet (Stout) Walt, Centralia, WA; daughters Sarah Bodish, Centralia, Rachel (Wil) Walt-Weatherly, Portland, OR; sisters Carna (Rene) Sturtz, Genoa, IL, Kathy (Ron) Burright, Dekalb, IL; brothers Mike (Linda) Walt, Sandwich, IL, Steve (Kate McCabe) Walt, DeKalb IL, Ronny Walt, Largo, FL, Jack Walt, Glendale, AZ; ten nieces and 11 nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Norma Walt; brothers Sonny and Bobby Walt.
Donations may be made in Ted’s name to any local food bank.
Ted will be laid to rest at Lone Oaks II Cemetery in Stayton, OR.
