David Marshall Campbell, 68, died with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, of complications from cancer. He was born on September 10, 1953, in Moscow, Idaho. Dave was raised as a pastor’s kid of the late Marshall and Joan (Newman) Campbell. Dave and his siblings John, Donna and Kathleen moved throughout the Pacific Northwest during his youth, and he graduated from Camas High School. He then attended the University of Puget Sound, where he was a founding member of the independent fraternity of lifelong friends known as the D.B. Hoopers. Dave earned his Master of Public Administration degree from Indiana University.
Dave’s career was dedicated to public service, including 17 years as Chehalis City Manager, and most recently as Chief Deputy Assessor in Lewis County. Dave was an active Rotarian, served on the Board of United Way of Lewis County, and was proud of the revitalization of Penny Playground. He was months away from joining his wife Debbie in well-earned retirement. Dave devoted his life to raising and loving his family, strengthening his community, serving his home church, Chehalis United Methodist, and steadfastly believing in the Seattle Mariners.
He will be deeply missed by Debbie, his wife of 23 years, his daughter Rebecca Duncan, and her children Max, Jojo, and Michael, his daughter Lisa (Christopher) Draney and their children, Hannah, Marshall and Ruby, and Paul (Genève) Campbell and their children Vera and Harriet, and his siblings, as well his extended family and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Chehalis United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. A livestream of the service can be found on the Chehalis United Methodist Church YouTube channel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chehalis United Methodist Church, United Way of Lewis County, or Penny Playground c/o the Chehalis Foundation.
