Bruce M. Dunn of Rochester, WA, died Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Overlake Memorial Hospital in Bellevue, WA. He went to join those that had gone before; his grandparents - Oliver and Amanda (Piepkorn) Thompson, and William and Lucy (Ford) Dunn; his parents - Milton and Myrtle Dunn; brother - Alan Dunn; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was born at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND on June 20, 1943, to Milton and Myrtle (Thompson) Dunn. He married Kathleen G. Froemming at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Minot, ND on August 28, 1966. They were married 2 days short of 57 years. After high school, Bruce attended North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND) to work towards a Civil Engineering degree followed by employment at: Ulteig Engineers (in ND, Montana and Minnesota), National Cash Register Company (multiple locations in ND), Aid Association for Lutherans (Devil’s Lake, ND), Robertson Lumber Company (Devil’s Lake, ND), Ganahl Lumber Company (Anaheim, CA). When he retired in January 2008, he and Kathy indulged in their love of travel, seeing all the sights in their RV. They sold the RV and settled in Rochester, WA in May 2017. Even though they settled down, nothing could slow him down. When he wasn’t fishing or camping, Bruce loved working with his hands either using his carpentry skills to build or creating beautiful landscaping at his home. Bruce was well known for his big heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He will forever be remembered by his wife Kathleen (“Kathy”), son Shawn Dunn and wife Tabitha of Bellevue, WA; daughter Natalie and husband Tommy McElmeel of Foresthill, CA; and three grandchildren: Samantha Dunn, Lucas and Olivia McElmeel; his sister Diane (Dunn) and husband Myron Mogard; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families as well as many friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 10am-noon at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 10000 Highway 12 SW, Rochester, WA 98579. Immediately followed by funeral service at 12 noon. He will be laid to rest at Grand Mound Cemetery, 6300 183rd Avenue SW, Rochester, WA 98579.
