Bessie Eileen Price or "The Traveling Girl" as she liked to be known, passed away peacefully and painlessly in her Centralia, WA. home on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at the age of 90.
She was the daughter of Samuel and Annie (Smith) Collier and was born in the family home at Diamond Cove. Newfoundland, Canada by a midwife that traveled an hour by rowboat to deliver her on Christmas Day 1929.
Bessie was a very kind, loving and caring lady who touched the hearts of family, friends and all she met. She had an unwavering devotion and strong belief in God and was a member of the "Harrison Square Presbyterian Church" and also attended the "Evangelical Free Central Bible Church" with her daughter and son-in-law. She only saw the goodness in others and always had a smile to brighten your day, even in her dying days.
Bessie moved from Newfoundland to the U.S.A. on December 14, 1953 and worked her way from the East Coast to the West Coast. She enjoyed traveling and all the adventures along the way. She traveled to and from the East Coast four times throughout her life. She worked very hard in her life, overcoming many obstacles, always making sure her husband and children were taken care of.
The fondest memories Bessie had were of her childhood home. The large Schooner ships would moor in the harbor while the sailors rowed to shore to obtain water from "Colliers Brook". The girls loved to hand the sailors the buckets to draw the water to put into barrels. They had pastries every Saturday, would pick berries to make jams, had several gardens, did their own canning, had sheep, spun the wool, dyed it and knitted their clothes, hunted an assortment of game and fowl, trapped lobster and caught a variety of fish.
Bessie is survived by her daughter Vera (Donald) Bates. Grandchildren: Jennifer Bock, Michael Jorgenson and Jared Lyman. Great Grandchildren: Eternity Bock, Ryan Trudeau and Phoebe Trudeau. Brother: Gerald Collier, Port aux Basques, NFLD. Sisters: Marjorie, Cassie, Edna and Joyce. Half - Brothers: John, Robert, Stanley and Wilson. Half - Sisters: Mabel, Florence, Annie, Maude and Clara.
Funeral Services will be held February 6, 2020 at 11am at the Central Bible Evangelical Free Church, with Pastor Randy Sortino officiating. Located at 2333 Sandra Ave. Centralia, WA. 98531. 360.736.2061. Private burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Centralia, WA.
