Agathe von Kampen Turrell departed to be with her LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
Agathe was the youngest child born to Julius and Anna von Kampen, an ethnic German family in Chortitza, Ukraine in the Soviet Union in 1935. Her ancestors emigrated to the Ukraine under Catherine the Great to the Ukraine (Russia) from Prussia (Eastern Germany) in the late 1700's. Before and after her birth, Agathe's family and village were caught up in the purges and famines instigated by Stalin. Many of her relatives went to the Siberian Gulag work camps never to be heard from again. At the age of seven, Hitler's Germany invaded the Ukraine and captured her village from the Soviet Army. Her family retreated with the German Army during the Soviet counter offensive in 1943. Her father was captured by the Soviet Army in Poland and sent to the death camps. Upon to her return to Germany Agathe was given a birth certificate by the German Reich dated November 15, 1935. Agathe and her mother, brother Gerhard and grandmother emigrated to the United States under the Displaced Persons Act in 1947.
Agathe wrote an autobiography entitled "The Chocolate Bar", still available on Amazon.
Agathe was an accomplished seamstress in her day and could create a dress/gown from scratch for any occasion.
Agathe was pre-deceased by her father, grandmother, and mother. Her only sibling Gary (Gerhard) von Kampen passed earlier this year. Agathe is survived by her daughters Juanita Austin and Doreen Olsen, grandchildren Andrew Byrne and Kimberly Yamasaki, and great grandchildren Sierra, Jayce, Felicity, and Malachi.
Agathe fellowshipped at a small King James Bible Study group where she found the assurance of her salvation which she had received from Jesus Christ many years before. She particularly loved the open forum Bible studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays, where she worked out her salvation, learning that she already had Jesus inside her, never to leave nor forsake her. Agathe leaves behind her a church family who loved her and looks forward to meet her again when Jesus calls us up!
Agathe's remains will be interred on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Ethel Cemetery at 11:00am. There will be a memorial for Agathe at the Sunday Meeting Room service, 2189 Rice Road, Chehalis followed by a potluck meal on September 17, 2023.
Many thanks to the staff of Assured Hospice and Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary.
