William Norman Rattray, 91, resident of Centralia, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at Sharon Care Center, Centralia. He was born March 10, 1922 in New Westminster, B.C. Canada to Norman and Evelyn (Soule) Rattray. He moved to Washington State at age three. He attended school in the Seattle area and graduated from Queen Anne High School. William joined the U.S. Navy serving for four years and was discharged in 1945. William and Amelia (Voigt) were married on April 11, 1981 in Seattle. William and Amelia moved to Centralia in 1982. He was employed for 36 years with Darigold Farms as a truck driver. William enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and playing tennis and being in the great outdoors.
William was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William; and four sisters.
William is survived by his wife, Amelia of the family home in Centralia, Wash.; son, Robert and wife, Paloma Rattray of Renton, Wash.; daughter, Barbara and husband, Michael McCormick of Des Moines, Wash.; step-daughter, Leila and husband, Al Miller of Renton, Wash.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Newell-Hoerling's Chapel, Centralia, followed by a graveside service starting at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia. A celebration of life service will follow the graveside service at Harrison Square Presbyterian Church, Centralia starting at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to Assured Home Health & Hospice or to the Veterans Museum.
