William Alan Dargan passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 1, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born in Los Angeles the day before Halloween (October 30) in 1946; the only child of Edwin Carroll Dargan (Vernon Cuthbert Dargan & Laura Ward Cushman) and Louise Walters (William Jarvis Walters & Lovie Leona Harvey) who both predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Megan Kelly; their three children Miranda, Maleen and Tim (adopted grandson). He also has five granddaughters - June, Beau, Ivory, Daisy and Pearl.

Bill's first and foremost love was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After a spiritual experience at the Los Angeles Temple, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while in his twenties. He later introduced this church to his future wife, Megan Kelly, and they were married a few months later - April 12, 1975. He was working as a medical technologist at VA Wadsworth in Los Angeles and she came through as a student. At the time of his death, they had been married 51 years.

Bill's early love of dinosaurs and comics lead to a lifelong relationship with science fiction and fantasy. He amassed an amazing number of comics and DVDs over his lifetime and delighted in stuffed animals and weird scenarios. However, his pride and joy were the opportunities he had to teach classes at the church. He did thousands of hours of research on gospel topics and wrote hundreds of papers. No question was too obscure for him to ignore, and he was often turned to when the missionaries needed questions answered. He was even published in the Meridian magazine.

A memorial service in the memory of Bill will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd at 10:00 am at the LDS chapel in Chehalis (2195 Jackson Highway, Chehalis, WA 98532) with President Jerome Hicks presiding. There will be a graveside ceremony at 1:30 on the same day at the New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place (9212 Chambers Creek Rd. W, University Place, WA 98467) with Bishop Timme presiding.
