Steven Raymond Gunsolley, known affectionately to many as Gunner, was born on May 30, 1948, in Chehalis, Washington. A charismatic man known for his dedication to his family, Steve lived a full life reflective of his loving and generous nature before his passing on March 22, 2025.
Steve was born to Raymond (Buss) and Donna Gunsolley May 30, 1948 in Chehalis Washington. He graduated from WF West High School in 1966 and followed in his father and big brother Glen's footsteps by joining the Navy soon after graduating high school. He served on the USS Kittyhawk and was active duty for two years. After returning from the Navy Steve married the love of his life, Deborah (Debbie) Betts and they were happily married for 56 years.
Steve and Debbie raised two children, Jeff and Laurie. Steve devoted much of his life to the fire service as a firefighter and fire investigator. He spent 29 years at the Chehalis Fire Department as a firefighter and captain, before retiring and moving on to become a private fire investigator. His work was not just a job, but a calling – a testimony to his dedicated character. After his retirement, he continued to be involved, always ready to lend a helping hand or share his wealth of knowledge with anyone who sought it. A lifelong resident of Washington, Steve made his home in Tenino following his retirement.
But it was not all work for Steve. He was a man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. His family was his pride and joy. He never missed one of his kids or grandkids sporting or school events. He also had a great passion for hunting and fishing, and he was a dedicated sports enthusiast, especially the WSU Cougars. He also loved spending time with friends and enjoyed good food and wine. Steven is survived by his wife, Debbie Gunsolley; his children, Laurie and Jeff Gunsolley and wife Autumn; and his granddaughter, Kayla and husband Kirk Vigre, grandsons Tysen Paul and wife Nicole Paul, Camden Gunsolley, and Aiden Gunsolley; and his great grandson Miles Steven Vigre and great granddaughter Hadley Jean Paul and his brother Glen Gunsolley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Donna Gunsolley.
