Obituary

Stanley L. Johnson, age 90, passed away at his home in Rochester on January 6, 2018. Stanley was born on April 22, 1927 in Hoquiam, Washington to Leander and Helma (Mattson) Johnson. He served in the Occupation Forces immediately after WWII. He met Claribelle Munsell at the Swede Hall in 1952 and they began a 65 year marriage on December 24, 1952. Stan began trapping and selling furs in Seattle, Washington at an early age. Different jobs would follow, such as harvesting fields for local farmers, log truck driving, and the railroad. In 1955, Stanley and his brother Leroy built a sawmill and ran a partnership under the name S&L Johnson Bros. They spent many years selling cants and spending time in the Pacific County area. He also had a farm where he grew and sold hay to customers. Stanley enjoyed deer and elk hunting trips. Stanley is survived by his wife Clara, daughter Judy (Thomas)Smiley of Rochester, sons; Bill E. Johnson of Rochester and Rick (Dennis) Johnson of Olympia, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Clara and family wish to thank Rick, Christine, Jessica, Karen, Becky, and Ryan of Assured Hospice, along with Julian, Rosalie and Anna of Advanced Health Care, for their great care of Stan in his final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at Swede Hall in Rochester on January 20th, 2018, at noon.
