Obituary

R. Dennis Martin, 90, passed away peacefully June 22, 2014 at Centralia Providence Hospital comforted by his loving family. Dennis was born April 1, 1924 in Curlew, Iowa to Alfred C. and Bertha O. (Ralle) Martin. After graduating from Laurens High School and serving in the U. S. Navy, he drove to Washington with friends. He fell in love with the Northwest and stayed here. He retired from employment as millwright for Kinnear Door in 1988. Dennis was exceptionally skilled at wood crafting. He will be remembered for his expertise in creating beautiful hardwood curio cabinets, clocks, music-jewelry boxes and detailed models of vehicles and construction equipment. Many of his children's furniture and toys have been enjoyed by Centralia Christian School, Salvation Army and non-profit organizations. He was always happy to share his creative knowledge and a helping hand. Dennis and Dorothy Brandt were married July 24, 1971. They have enjoyed hiking, beach combing, traveling, and watching Seahawks and Mariners games. They especially enjoyed their family. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister-in-laws Arlo and Ardean, Francis and Nelma, Theron, Darwin and by his son, Paul Alan. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Tony C. (Jutta), Deb (Steve) Henson and Ron (Kathy); grandchildren Serenity, Beth, Rebecca, Alex, Elise and Amelia and 12 great-grandchildren; daughter by choice Gail White; sister-in-laws Shirley and Bernice; and numerous nieces and nephews. Per his request there will be no funeral services. A graveside service will be held at Claquato Cemetery on August 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by an open house to celebrate his life at his daughter and son-in-law's home at 199 Jeffries Rd. in Chehalis. A special note of thanks to the staff of Colonial Residence and the caring nurses at Centralia Providence Hospital! Please share your memories of Dennis by signing his online guest book.
