Paul Gibson, the man who could make anyone laugh, left Mother Earth on December 17, 2024, at the age of 69. Paul was born on Bainbridge Island, WA, on August 5, 1955, and spent most of his life in Olympia, Washington. A loving father, a hilarious friend, and an incredibly generous soul, Paul lived life on his own terms.
Paul was a retired Fisheries Technician for over thirty years at the Nisqually Indian Tribe. His passion for nature and the environment was only surpassed by his love for his family, friends, and his impressive collection of The Beatles albums. His hobbies included going on scenic drives, traveling, and enjoying the occasional puff of the devil's lettuce. He always believed in the words of Bob Marley, "When one door is closed, don't you know, another is open." And in Paul's case, the door was usually to his car, ready for another adventure.
Paul is survived by his children, Brandy Sanchez, Paul II, Jeremy Spencer, and Cassi Gibson; his grandchildren, Isabel Sanchez, Adrien and Jaxson Spaeth, Zamayah and Willakai John, Jaylene Spencer, Wah-Tah-Shan Case, and Aiyana Sanchez; as well as his great-grandchildren, Salem Sanchez, Kaiden Thoreson, Elaina Sanchez. His memory will be cherished by all of them, as well as by the many people whose lives he touched with his humor and generosity. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Sanchez and Mary Gibson.
The celebration of Paul's life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:00am PST at the Nisqually Community Center in Olympia, Washington. A continuation of the celebration will take place at the Leschi Cemetery Road Southeast, Nisqually Indian Community, Washington, 98513 at 12:00pm PST. As the great Dr. Seuss said, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." And with Paul, there sure is a lot to smile about.
We encourage everyone to share their favorite memories and upload photos of Paul on the memorial page. As Paul would have said, "The more the merrier."
