Obituary

Nancy Lamb was born Nancy Lynn Ward in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, to Leonard and Jonnie Ward on October 20, 1947. She was the third of four children. Later, her family moved to Mossyrock, Washington, where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1965. After high school, Nancy traveled to Tacoma, Washington, to attend beauty college with her best friend and roommate Darcy. On weekends they traveled back and forth between Mossyrock and Tacoma via the train. After graduating from beauty college, Nancy opened a beauty shop in Mossyrock. Nancy married her first husband in 1966, and a daughter, Carrie, was born June 22, 1971. She later divorced in 1973. In 1974, Nancy met Gene Lamb and they were married on December 6. Nancy and Carrie moved in with Gene on a farm at the end of Big Hanaford Road outside Centralia, Washington. She learned very quickly to be a farm wife helping to put up hay, take care of cows, pigs, horses, and even chickens (which terrified her greatly). In the '80s, Nancy returned to school, attending classes at Centralia Community College in horticulture and gardening. She opened a lawn care business where she employed a friend and one of her grandsons until she took a job working at L.C. Market, and later Fuller's Market Basket grocery stores. She loved getting to know the regulars and they loved her. Over the years, there were countless family and friend gatherings on the farm where Nancy excelled at supplying the table with delicious foods, cookies and desserts. Gene and Nancy spent nearly 43 years together until his death on August 16, 2017. Nancy remained living on the farm where she continued to host family and friends who came with their support of friendship, farm help, lawn mowing, garden care, and even groceries. Due to her battle with dementia, it was no longer safe for her to remain alone in the home she held dear, so she moved November of 2023 to a good health care facility in Centralia. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents (Leonard and Jonnie), all three of her brothers (Larry, Mike, and Dave), her husband (Gene), her daughter (Carrie), and one grandchild (Kathleen Kaut-Nygaard). She is survived by her stepchildren: Arlene (Ali), Debbie (Dan), Laurie (Skip), Colleen (Ervin), and Mark. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews. Nancy passed from this world early in the morning of February 12, 2025, but remains in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
