Mary Lou Matz, of Centralia, WA passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025 at the age of 93.
Mary Lou was born May 3rd, 1931 in the old log cabin on the family's homestead in Dove Creek, Colorado.
The eldest child of five born to the late Joe and Juanita Fury.
She spent her childhood growing up on their pinto bean farm, sometimes helping out in the fields while also serving as the main caregiver for her youngest brother Isaac while their mother would drive tractor in the fields.
The family would winter in Clovis, CA where she went to high school. She later graduated high school from home schooling.
In the mid 1950's she moved to Washington. Story was she drove the old Hudson out to Washington for the purpose of caring for her grandmother. She went on to stay and began working as a CNA in a nursing home in Centralia.
In 1962 she married Harvey Matz of Centralia. They had two children, Rebecca and Ken. She then retired from nursing and became a full time homemaker.
Mary enjoyed life. She was an avid gardener, growing big vegetable gardens and many flower gardens which she loved. She also enjoyed quilting and canning. She had a talent for baking and cake decorating, making several wedding cakes over the years. She enjoyed singing to herself and those around her would often say, "Its going to be a good day, Mary's singing."
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband Harvey, brothers Paul Gene and John and her sister Betty Jo.
Mary is survived by her daughter Rebecca Matz, Centralia, son Ken Matz, Centralia, two grandsons Tyler and Dylan, 2 great grandsons Jensen and Landon, and her younger brother Isaac Fury, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Mary loved her family very much and they loved her very much.
