Lois Chappell Conrad passed away on November 13, 2023, at 94 years old at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.
She was born on March 16, 1929, in Longview, Washington to parents Howard and Ruth Carico. Lois grew up in Lewis County and married her first husband, Fred Joseph Chappell in Centralia on April 21, 1946. After 66 years of marriage, Fred went to be with the Lord. Later that year, Lois found love a second time and at the age of 84 married her second husband, William (Bill) F. Conrad. They only had a short time together, but she loved him with all of her heart. Bill Conrad passed away in June of 2014.
Lois is best known for the twenty years she served as a school bus driver for the Centralia School District. When she wasn't driving her bus, Lois enjoyed her dogs, spending time with good friends, camping in their RV, picking blackberries, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Centralia First Presbyterian Church (now Harrison Square Presbyterian Church) and was known for her sense of humor, her kindness to others, and her endless optimism.
Lois was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheryl Clark. She will be deeply missed by her family including David and Joan Chappell of Lacey; Christopher and Ryann Chappell of Bremerton; Camille Chappell; John Clark; Jason, Sarah, Ella, Audrey, and Levi Clark; Lindsay Clark; and all those whose lives she touched over the years.
A celebration of life will be held in Lois' honor at 12:00 PM on Saturday, December 9 at Newell-Hoerling's mortuary at 205 W. Pine Street in Centralia.
