Leona Irene Johnson passed away peacefully at home with her husband of 52 years at her side. She was born on Sept. 1, 1940 in Foley, Minn. She spent the majority of her life in Canby, Ore. She was a graduate of Canby Union High School. She met her husband, Marvin Johnson, at Black Lake Bible Camp. After several years of writing and courtship while Marv was in the military, they were married on Leona's 21st birthday. Leona was a caregiver, wedding cake maker and known by countless friends throughout Chehalis and Centralia. Leona was also known for her strong faith, her generosity and acceptance of every person she met.
She is survived by her husband, Marv Johnson, a retired employee from Sears for 31 years and later owner of Marv's Evergreens, two brothers, Vernon and Gordon. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Fuller and Carol Pearson. They had three children, sons, Randy Johnson, a teacher at Centralia Middle School, Ken Johnson, a maintenance mechanic at Cresline, daughter, Renee Eacker, a Para-educator at Washington Elementary School. Leona had eight grandchildren, Alishia, Brad, Chris, Drake, Chandler, Amber, Raquel and Melia, two great-grandchildren, Charizma and Sadiekay.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Chehalis. Any memorials can be given to First Baptist Church Youth Group or Hospice Assured Home Health.
