Obituary

Leo Angelo Frare, 72, of Centralia Washington, passed away on February 4, 2015 from complications relating to lung cancer. Leo Frare was born in Olympia Washington to Angelo and Coletta Frare on October 20, 1942. He was raised in Tenino Washington. He married his childhood sweetheart and mother of his children Shirley Cauley on June 30, 1962. They were married for 33 years before she passed away. He married his second wife Donis Frare on May 25, 1997. They were together until his death. Leo was a local leader and businessman. He owned and operated many businesses in the Chehalis / Centralia area including two service stations, a towing company and wrecking yard, an AM/PM, and a tax and bookkeeping office. With his wife Donis, Leo also owned and operated the Timber Inn Restaurant and Lounge in Coos Bay, Oregon. He was proud that these businesses not only provided services to the community but also provided income to his employee's families. He was a member of the Chehalis Chamber of Commerce. He mentored and taught other entrepreneurs on business and customer service. His AM/PM won several corporate awards for volume sold, customer service and marketing. Leo's lifelong passion was protecting individual rights and personal freedoms. One of his greatest joys was in finding tax exemptions for his friends and clients. He was active in the Republican Party for over 40 years. He served as the District Director for the John Birch Society in the seventies and eighties and opened and operated the American Opinion Book Store in Centralia. Leo volunteered as Campaign Manager and Fund Raising Chairman for many conservative candidates and causes. For several years in his younger days, Leo was an accomplished race car driver, racing 1930s era jalopies on local dirt race tracks. He had a reputation for taking extreme risks and winning races. A philosophy he used for more than just racing. He said, "The only thing I bet on is me." As he matured his hobbies changed to making beer and wine, household projects, and gardening. He loved dancing and over the years won a number of jitterbug contests. Leo is survived by his wife Donis Frare, his son Bill (Elizabet) Frare, daughters Julie (Reggie) Parker and Laurie (Raymond) Blurton, step-children Roy Glen (Cindy) Gearhart, Dawnila (Greg) Gienger, Mary Jo (Mike) Waring and Sharon (Tom) Jerde, and 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Gail) Frare, and sister Anetta (George) Powell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Frare, and his son Leo Allan Frare A Memorial service will be held 11:00 Wednesday February 11, 2015 at Newell Hoerling's in Centralia Washington. Graveside Inurnment will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Tenino with a reception following at the Tenino Catholic Church. Please share your memories of Leo by signing his online guest book.
