Lenora "Nora" Louise Machado, 81, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on March 31, 2026, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. Nora was born Sept. 22, 1944, in French Camp, California, to Frank and Guadalupe Gutierrez. At the age of 5, she became ill with measles, which left her completely deaf. Though this brought many challenges, Nora never allowed her hearing impairment to define her or hold her back. She met life with strength, determination and heart.
Nora and Don were married Dec. 27, 1964, in Brentwood, California. In 1970, they made Centralia, Washington, their home, where she and Don raised their three children. Over the years, she worked in a variety of jobs, primarily in secretarial roles, before retiring in 2003. No matter where she worked, Nora was known for her friendliness and her ability to connect with others. More than anything, Nora loved her family and friends. She had a gift for making people feel seen and welcomed. Whether at the grocery store, a sporting event or anywhere in between, Nora was always ready with a big smile and a warm hug. She truly loved to talk and connect.
Nora also expressed her love through cooking. She was an exceptional cook who never let anyone leave her home hungry. Her homemade tortillas and Spanish rice were especially loved by those lucky enough to share her table. She found happiness in the simple things, too - planting flowers, growing tomatoes and spending time with her beloved dogs.
Nora is survived by her brothers, Robert and Ronnie Gutierrez; her daughters, Lynette Machado and Kristina Machado Krueger (John Krueger); and her son, Vincent Machado. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Cole Krueger, Kaitlyn Carey (Ben Carey), Brady Krueger, Ashlyn Whalen and Sayde Machado, all of whom she loved deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Machado; her parents, Frank and Guadalupe Gutierrez; her sister, Anna Vengley; and her brothers, Frank "Butch" Gutierrez and Richard Gutierrez.
A celebration of life will be held April 18, 2026, from noon to 5 p.m. at City Farm in downtown Chehalis, 456 N. Market Blvd., Chehalis, Washington, 98532. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories and celebrate her life.
