Kenneth “Kenney” Lewis Alan passed away, at the age of 93, in Rochester WA on August 25, 2026. He was born Kenneth Lane Smith, April 2, 1934 in Tacoma WA to Lowell and Margaret (Berg) Smith.

As a child, he and his big sister Barbara, along with their parents, lived in many different locations. His father followed logging and construction jobs: Brooklyn, Irondale, Central Park, Aberdeen and others. Many summers were spent with his Grandparents Selah and Bessie Smith in Irondale, WA. His formal education ended at 8th grade when he went to work in the woods with his father.

Uncle Sam called in 1957 and after Basic training in Ft Ord CA, Kenney was sent to Germany for 2 years. He was called up again in the early 60's where he served at Ft Lewis.

In 1959, he married Carol Erickson from Garrard Creek area of Oakville. They moved to Anchorage Alaska and there they welcomed their first child, Kathie. The family suffered several setbacks through the years and had to start over again. The original Rochester home burned to the ground in 1966 and the Barn burned in 1986.

Kenney enjoyed working with his hands. During his working years he was a logger, truck driver, builder, Mechanic. He built some of the buildings in Ohanapecosh and Longmire on Mt Rainier National Park. He worked for the State Hwy Dept in Ellensburg for 10 years. In the 1980's, he built another home in Rochester. His later years were spent in Fruitland Idaho until the last 3 years when his family moved him to Rochester.

Preceding him in death are his Parents, Lowell and Margaret Smith, his wife, Carol Smith, his son, Allmon Smith, his granddaughter, Tazzalyn Lewis and his sister, Barbara Hansen,

Kenney is survived by:

7 of his Children: Kathie Roberts of Benton City, WA, Jeanne Lewis, of Oak Harbor, WA, Suzie Smith, Doyle Smith, Merlie Smith, all of Rochester, WA, Mitchell and Bobbi Smith, of Oakville WA and Kevin Smith of Kelso, WA

4 Grandchildren: Amanda and Adam Sherrill of Lenexa KS, James and Elisabeth Roberts of Medical Lake WA, Mikayla and Colton Rhoades of Oakville WA and Maleaha and Riley Heck of Centralia, WA

one Great Granddaughter, Gabriela Roberts

Services to honor Kenney's life will be held on September 8, 2026

at Swede Hall (18543 Albany St SW, Rochester WA

Doors will open at 10am for viewing
