JoAnn (Carlson) Hess, age 79 of Centralia died Tuesday September 17, 2013 at home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Carroll Hess with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Shenandoah, Iowa on Saturday July 28, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Vivian (White) Carlson. She was a graduate from Villisca High School, class of 1952. As a student at Villisca High, JoAnn was active as a cheerleader and had the honor of being named Homecoming Queen. JoAnn was a very outgoing person who was artistic and loved to paint. She created flower arrangements and did a variety of crafts, gardening, cooking, reading, loved horses and was an avid walker. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Valoree Gorden of Wisconsin and Diana Hardy of Olympia and her son; Terry Hess of Olympia. Sister of Kevin Carlson of Oregon. She was the grandmother of six and great grandmother of five. She was preceded in death by her sister Cleta Archer. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to JoAnn's Graveside Service on Thursday September 26, 2013 at 1 PM at the Grand Mound Cemetery, 6300 183rd Avenue SW, Rochester, WA 98579.
