Jean Stevens Taylor passed away at her home in Chehalis, Wash., May 4, 2013, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Berkeley, Calif., Dec. 17, 1927. She graduated from Mills College in Oakland, Calif., in 1949 and was a music teacher in Benicia and Richmond, Calif. She received her MA in Music Education from Stanford in 1958. She taught music in Piedmont, Calif., schools until 1964, when she married John Hunt Taylor and they settled in Seattle, Wash. She returned to teaching music in various places in Washington and Oregon for the next 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents, Blaine L. Stevens and Dora Beth Wren Stevens. She is survived by children, Tim Taylor (Pauleen), and Sandra Taylor Wallis (Roger); grandson, Derric Taylor (Melissa); and sister, Joanne Stevens Dundas (John).
An Eastern Star memorial service will take place at Lodge 28, 123 W. Main St., Chehalis, WA 98532, May 14, 2013 at 12:00. Arrangements under the care of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary.
