James Leroy Chastain was born to Thomas and Maggie Chastain on April 19, 1935. At the age of 77 James passed away peacefully at St. Peter Hospital on March 17, 2013.
Born and raised in Lewis County, he served his country in the Korean War as a Army Airborne Ranger of Special Forces.
James enjoyed the thrill of piloting an airplane, was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and golfer. He loved spending time to be apart of the setup of youth football, he also coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He was part owner of Beuter O'Neil Construction Company.
James drove truck for Sterling Breen Construction for several years, worked for Torno America on the Cowlitz Falls Dam. He retired while working at Lakeside Industries.
James was heavily involved with the Lewis County Republican Party, and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
He is survived by wife, Suzanne, two sons, Ed and Jeff, one daughter, Heidi Olson, step-son, Wayne VanWeerthuizen, granddaughter, Chance and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and John.
James will be laid to rest in the Garden of Devotion at Claquato Cemetery.
A celebration of his life will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 436 Coal Creek Rd., Chehalis, WA, 98532, on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Noon.
