Obituary

Helga Madga (Schellhaas) Wolf, age 75, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 in Centralia, Wash. after a two year battle with Alzheimer's dementia. She was born in Horingen, Germany, on May 28, 1938, the sixth of seven children of Johann and Katrina Schellhaas. Helga spent her school days in Germany before marrying Ehrenfried Wolf in 1960. The couple immigrated to America on Jan. 16, 1964, when their first son, Ehrenfried "Fred" Jr. was four years old. They settled in South Carolina, where two more sons, John and Jim were born. In 1976, the family relocated to Willapa Valley, Wash., where they resided until 1981. Helga loved animals and in Willapa Valley, she enjoyed her "mini-farm" for many years. The family then moved to the Lincoln Creek area of Centralia, Wash. Helga and Ehrenfried divorced shortly after. Helga was a homemaker and wonderful mother to her three sons. She was fiercely independent and thought nothing of packing her three boys off on a road trip. Her sons have many fond memories of their trips to the Smokey Mountains, Kings Dominion and to visit the U.S.S. Yorktown. Following her divorce, Helga began working for Assured Home Health and Hospice as a hospice aide, where she made many friends. Some of those same friends were there to help ease Helga's transition to Heaven, a place she never doubted would become her final destination. Helga was a very prideful, dignified lady and always wanted to help others. She took great pride in her flower gardens and the small house she bought and fixed up. She was known in her neighborhood for her green thumb and never met a stranger. She always had a hug for her sons and grandchildren and they could not leave her home without a treat of some sort. In addition, Helga was a wonderful cook and baker. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing host to her small family for holidays and special occasions. Although her memory failed her, her smile lit the halls of Sharon Care Center for the last two years of her life. Helga is survived by her three sons, Ehrenfried "Fred" Wolf of Dallas, Texas, John (Amy) Wolf of Chehalis, Wash. and Jim Wolf of Centralia, Wash. In addition to her sons, Helga loved her seven grandchildren, Kayla, Ehren, Allison, Hayden, LeAnna, Alden and Meili. Also surviving her are sisters, Hedwig Schon, Gerda Kleindienst, Karola Williard; and brother, Willi Schellhaas, all of Germany; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helga was preceded in death by her sisters, twins Leni Korn and Elli Walther. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Helga's name to Assured Home Health and Hospice or to the charity of your choice. Although Helga did not wish to have a funeral, her family is planning a celebration of her life to be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the V.R. Lee Community Building, 221 S.W. 13th Street, Chehalis, WA, by Penny Playground in Chehalis. The informal celebration of life will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. You are encouraged to share a favorite memory or photo.
