Geraldine Chromy, affectionately known as "Gerry" by those who cherished her, took her last breath on November 30, 2024. Born Geraldine Mae Fletcher on July 2, 1929, in Bagley, Minnesota, she was a beacon of compassion, empathy, and unwavering faith. Her humble upbringing was the cornerstone of the inspiring life she led, marked by kindness, integrity, and a deep love for her family and the Lord.
In the early grades she attended the Fletcher School, followed by graduation from Bagley High School in 1947.
In June of 1946, she met the future love of her life at a dance at the Roy Lake Pavillion, twenty miles south of Bagley (her home town) and 20 miles east of Mahnomen (his home town) . . .It must have been fate, as they were devoted to each other and inseparable for the next 61 years until his passing in 2008.
Geraldine was a resident of Centralia, Washington, and previously made her home in Mahnomen, Minnesota, and Seattle, Washington. An accomplished office secretary at the Burien, Washington Elks Club, she retired after 10 years of dedicated service. Throughout her life, she remained a constant source of inspiration to all who knew her. She was a remarkable homemaker, a devoted mother of three, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of fourteen. Her hobbies were as diverse as her interests; from dancing, singing, quilting, and ceramics, to tole painting, cooking, baking, canning, and computer solitaire, board games and reading, she embraced all the joys of life with open arms and a radiant smile.
Geraldine's life was a testament to her belief in the importance of being honest, trustworthy, and kind. Her dedication to her beloved husband, Windy, and her sons Don, Dave, and Steve, mirrored her commitment to leading a life that was proper, friendly, and rooted in love and trust in God. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Fletcher, her mother, Agnes Lundy, and her husband, Wenzel (Windy) Chromy.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 1:15 pm PDT at Tahoma National Cemetery, where she was laid to rest with her husband, Windy.
