Arthur W. Hanson passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday morning, Oct. 12, 2012 at the age of 95.
He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla. The third child of August and Mary Hanson. When he was still young the family moved to South Dakota and there he graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1937. After graduation he moved to the state of Washington where he worked until he was drafted into the Army as a Warrant Officer in 1942. He served on the European Front, including the Battle of The Bulge. After the war, Art graduated from the University of Washington with a BS Degree in Psychology and then completed his Masters Degree in Social Welfare at U.C.L.A. He then returned to Washington, where he worked in the field of psychiatric social welfare and had a private counseling practice. He was the author of three books on the subject of human relationships and counseling. After retiring from this, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years. He was married to Ruth Palmer in 1958 and they lived in Chehalis for 47 years. Art was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth (2005), parents, August and Mary Hanson, sisters, June Harter, Ellen Johnson, Brita Johnson, and brother, Robert Hanson.
He is survived by his siblings, Nina Jones (Mel) of Chico, Calif., Jeanne Hanson of Wichita, Kan., and Ray Hanson of Port Angeles, Wash., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Art was a gentle, caring man, and the family will have a time of loving remembrance at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary, Centralia, Wash.
