Obituary

Arden Darrel Unger was a man you could count on. His love for God and his family was the foundation of his life. He was known for his unwavering faith, his commitment to serving others, and his enjoyment of a good joke. Born on September 9, 1938, in Battle Ground, Washington, to John and Florence Unger, Arden lived a full life dedicated to his family, his church, and his work. A master carpenter for nearly 50 years, he designed, built, and remodeled numerous homes and buildings—leaving a lasting legacy through his craftsmanship. Arden also used his skills to serve his church and community, working on various building projects and designs. Arden's passion for ministry was evident in his many years of service. He held numerous leadership roles including Royal Rangers leader and song leader, elder, home group leader, children's church leader, Sunday School superintendent, and youth leader. His deep voice and deep faith were blessings to many. He also read through the Bible 22 times in multiple translations—a testament to his devotion to God's Word. Among the many lives he touched, none were closer to him than his beloved wife, Joye, with whom he shared nearly 66 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: son Rand (Laurie), and daughters Sharolyn (Joe) and Amy (Greg). Though they experienced the heartbreak of losing their firstborn, Arden Darrel Unger Jr., at just eight months old, their family continued to grow and thrive. Arden leaves behind a rich legacy of love and faith through his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Arden went to be with Jesus on May 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered by all who knew him.
