Our bright, beautiful Amari Hope passed away on April 21, 2025, just a few days shy of four months old. She entered this world on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, as a beautiful reminder of the birth and life of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. She passed away the day after Easter, as a poignant reminder of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the sure promise of the Resurrection. Amari's light was bright, and she pointed everyone around her to Jesus Christ.
Amari was born to Bart and Rebecca Ricks, in Chehalis, Washington, joining a family of six strong and vibrant sisters. Besides her parents, Amari's sisters were her fiercest protectors and strongest advocates.
While she was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 shortly after birth and spent her first 37 days of life at the NICU at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, she enjoyed a blissful two and a half months at home with her family. Amari was a teacher who learned how to communicate effectively without needing words. Anyone who was fortunate enough to look into her beautiful eyes could not help but feel that she was looking into your soul and communicating something immensely important, something eternal. Some of the meanings of her name are eternal, miracle, to be loved, and promised by God. She pointed all of us to the eternal hope promised by God for those who keep His commandments–eternal life with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and our families.
Amari is survived by her mother and father, Bart and Rebecca; her sisters, Emma, Mercedes, Paige, Jane, Evelyn, and Julia; her paternal grandparents, Sherwood and Georgia Ricks; her maternal grandparents, David and Cindy Crane; she is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Amari's family would like to thank Amari's many medical providers, especially all of her nurses, for their tender love and care of Amari and for treating her like the beautiful human being that she was rather than just a diagnosis.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 2195 Jackson Hwy, Chehalis, WA 98532. A private interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup, Washington. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Newell-Hoerling's Mortuary.
