Alberta Frances passed away quietly at her home on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the age of 83. She was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Onalaska, Wash., to Raymond McChesney and Opal (Adams) McChesney. She is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 67 years, Harold Borovec; three sons, Kerry (Pauly) Borovec of Renton, Wash., Carl (Debbie) Borovec of Bend, Ore. and Rick (Lori) Borovec of Chehalis; one daughter, Cindy (Don) Matson of Mukilteo, Wash.; siblings, Jeanne Granger and Ray (Joan) McChesney of Arizona, Elaine (Will) Ulry of Olympia, Wash.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alberta was a lifelong resident of the greater Chehalis area residing in Onalaska, Napavine, Centralia and Rochester during her growing up years. She married the love of her life at the tender age of 16 and then resided in the same home, on Magnolia Drive, for the next 67 years. She was active in the First Christian Church of Chehalis for many years and she enjoyed cooking (she was a fabulous cook), knitting, sewing, reading, and traveling. She worked for 32 years as a bookkeeper for Central Fuel Company while raising her four children and also served in the same capacity as a volunteer with the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad Association for many years.
In later years, Alberta enjoyed chasing trains with her best friend and lifelong companion, Harold. She traveled throughout the United States by Amtrak (no airplanes for this couple!) to many railroad conventions gathering friends along the way. These travels brought them much joy and many happy memories. She also enjoyed many delightful trips with Discovery Tours traveling all over the Northwest and beyond.
A celebration of Alberta's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Chehalis. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund, 111 NW Prindle St., Chehalis or the Lewis County Historical Museum, 599 Front St. Chehalis WA 98532.
