Obituary

Adrian Schraeder was born April 28, 1918, in Clifton, Iroquois County, IL to Fred and Eva (Roth) Schraeder, and passed away on June 26, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born one of ten children and lost his mother at the birth of his brother Fred at the age 5. He was employed by Allaire-Woodward in Peoria, IL until leaving for overseas service in the Army Air-Corp in 1942 as a S Sgt. After his return from service he went back to his previous employer before transferring to Chehalis in 1951. He was to retire in 1988 after 51 years from I.P. Callison and Sons. Adrian lived a life of service. He was active in the community by serving on the Chehalis Planning Commission for many years, and the committee that designed and implemented the planting at National Ave and Chamber Way. He took pride in the fact he helped build the rail tracks to the new industrial park in the 60's. He helped with Little League, Girls Softball, and Boy Scouts while his children were young and later The Cornerstone, Greater Chehalis Food Bank, and was a leader in the Marriage Encounter Movement. Adrian was an active member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, serving many years on all the church committees and as the head usher for over 40 years. He also served the St. Joseph's elementary school in many capacities while his 11 children attended. Adrian was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1939. He was honored this spring with his 75th year pin and had just been awarded its highest Degree the Forth becoming Worthy Sir Knight. Over the years he served as Grand Knight and for many years as the Financial Secretary. He was badly injured falling from the chapters building roof while making repairs in the early 60's. He served for over 25 years as a board member for the group's campground at Black Lake in Olympia. Adrian is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Jeanne (Hunt) Schraeder, his parents and eight of his nine siblings; He also felt the pain of loss of one child, one son-in-law, and three grandchildren. He is survived by his eleven children: Jody Casey, Tacoma, Chuck (Chris) Hayden ID, Phil (Deb), Sharon (Fletcher Gober), Frank (Dara Watkins) Lester (Veronica) Max (Ken Floyd) all of the local area, Netty (Steve Soares) Livermore, CA, Barbara (Kerry Callison), Federal Way, Michele (Dwaine Hankins) and Cathy (Kris Bailey) both of Tonasket, He is also survived by one brother Fred and Helen Schraeder of St Louis MO. The family wishes to thank the staff of Chehalis West for making his final years like being at home, particularly Stacy, who we feel is like family. Our heartfelt thanks also go out to the wonderful staff at Sharon Care and Providence Medical. On Thursday July 3 2014, 11:00 AM Funeral Mass will be preceded by the Rosary at 10:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6th Ave and Cascade, Chehalis, WA. A luncheon will follow the mass in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Catholic School, Chehalis.
