Opal West Obituary

Opal West, 94, passed away peacefully at Sharon Care Center on June 26, 2018.  She was born on October 27, 1923 on the family farm in Lincoln Creek, WA, to Wilson and Mabel Padham.  She was the third of five siblings, graduating from Centralia High School in 1940.

On Dec. 24, 1942, Opal married the love of her life, John P. West. Many of their early years together were spent in the Hoquiam/Aberdeen area where they raised their two sons. In later years, they divided their time between Centralia, WA, and Palm Desert, CA.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, John P., of nearly seventy years and her son, John L. of La Quinta, CA. She is survived by son, Stephen W. West (Dori) of Redmond, WA; Linda West, widow of her son John L West; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Lou Milem; a special sister-in-law, Elsie Abersfeller; and many nieces and nephews.

Opal’s friends and family knew her as a woman of faith who gave unselfishly to her family and friends.   She loved to play and watch golf and enjoyed a good game of cards, especially pinochle. Thanks to all of you for enriching her life.  We will miss her dearly.

Her family wishes to thank the staffs of Assured Hospice, Sharon Care Center, Washington Park Direct Care, Stillwater’s Estates, her church family at Cook’s Hill Community Church and her many friends for their kindness, loving care, and prayers.

At Opal’s request, a private service for immediate family will be held at a later date.
