Gerald (Jerry) Robert Sloppy

Gerald (Jerry) Robert Sloppy, 80, of Oakville, WA, passed away July 13th 2017. He was born Sep 20th 1936 in Yelm, WA, to Robert & Ruth Sloppy, and was the oldest of five children. Later came sister Virginia, and brothers Pat, Ed & Buck. Jerry worked many places in his life, Washington State Highway Dept. for many years, Pulp and Paper Plant, Rochester School District and Maple Lane as a janitor & Oakville Shake Mill. He also spent many years as an EMT and volunteer Fireman with the Oakville Fire Dept. before retiring. He also had a small machine repair shop he worked in from time to time. Jerry was Veteran who was in the Navy for a period of time, before being honorably discharged. He had several Hobbies, but his favorite hobby was working on making ink pens with different woods & plastics. He also enjoyed rock finding & polishing, and reading his Western Novels, there was always one sitting beside his chair. He loved having lunch with the Elders on the Chehalis Reservation. This was almost a daily ritual for him. He also loved travelling with the Elders for the Luncheons in various places. He enjoyed watching the Seahawks & Mariners. He loved the months of July & September for the “Family Birthday Picnics” for all the Birthdays in the month of July & September. He also loved playing Keno at the local casino & was well known by all the “Keno Girls”. Jerry married Carolyn Mar 17th 1968 & had 49 wonderful years together. They had 4 great kids who loved their Dad dearly. Carolyn remains in the family home in Oakville & the children are all close by: Dena Russell (Randy) - Rochester, Lisa Turner (Jeff) - Rochester, Laurie Aldrich – Oakville, and Jerry Sloppy (aka J.W.) – Oakville. Jerry also was blessed with 8 wonderful Grandkids & 2 Great Grandkids. Grandchildren – Randall Russell, Christopher Russell, Micheal Russell, Jonathan Knittle, Jerry Meadors, Elizabeth Sloppy, William Sloppy, and Samuel Sloppy. Great Grandchildren – Levi Russell & Dakota Russell. Jerry is also survived by two brothers, Ed Graham (Irene) in New York and Buck Graham in Oakville, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his Father Robert Sloppy, Mother Ruth Graham, Sister Virginia, Brother Pat, and Grandson Micheal Russell. Service for Jerry will be on Wed, July 19th at the Oakville Shaker Church at noon. Dinner to follow at the Chehalis Tribe Community Center.
