Joy Rose Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Joy Lynne Rose announces her passing after a courageous 15-year battle with brain cancer, on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 53 years. Joy is survived by her husband of 27 years, David and her children, Amber, Brian, David Jr., and Isabelle. Joy is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, Calliope, Iris and Ophelia, and by her sister, Rhonda Bormann (nee Swenson) and her children Abigail Bormann and Jacob Bormann. Joy was predeceased by her parents, Wallace Swenson and Jean Swenson (nee Buchholz), and by her infant brother Brian Swenson.

Joy was a 1989 graduate of Fargo South High School in Fargo ND. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Moorhead State University (now Minnesota State University, Moorhead) in 1994. Joy was a member of the 188th Army National Guard Band based in Fargo ND, proudly serving 1989-2002 and playing tenor saxophone. Joy and David Rose were married in a civil ceremony on March 14, 1996, and their church wedding was July 6, 1996, in Faith Lutheran Church. Joy was a devoted mother to her children, insisting that she didn’t want her children to be “latch key kids”. She volunteered at the children’s schools throughout their education. Joy and David were a great team with Joy being the greatest supporter of David and his career. They pursued several moves to locations in Minnesota, California and Washington, which provided the basis for many family adventures.

A funeral Service in memory of Joy will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (Central Daylight Time), at Faith Lutheran Church, 302 1st St, Wolverton MN with Pastor Devlyn Brooks officiating. A visitation with the family will occur at 10:00 a.m. A portion of her ashes will be spread over the graves of her parents and brother in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery following the service, with a lunch being served at the church immediately following the cemetery. Interment of her ashes will follow at a later time in the Ironside OR cemetery. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Joy to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W Bryn Mawr Ave, Ste 550, Chicago IL 60631.
